Farmer Rabbit by Darby and Jones is a playful contemporary sculpture made from ceramic and recycled steel, measuring 54 cm high, 70 cm wide, and 25 cm deep. The piece presents a humorous fantasy scene of a rabbit driving a small tractor loaded with carrots.
At the front, the rabbit sits confidently on the tractor seat. Its legs lift up and rest casually along the side, which adds to the relaxed, comic tone. Meanwhile, the rabbit tilts its head upward. Its ears stand tall and alert, giving the figure a sense of curiosity and charm. Behind the rabbit, a basket overflows with oversized carrots. The basket attaches to the rear of the tractor, as if the rabbit proudly tows its harvest along.
The sculpture balances illustration and form. The rabbit and carrots use ceramic, which allows visible texture and expressive mark making. Their bright orange colour immediately draws the eye and reinforces the light-hearted mood. In contrast, the tractor is constructed from recycled steel. Welded sections remain visible, yet the surface is smoothed and polished. As a result, the metal takes on a rich purple sheen that offsets the ceramic elements.
Overall, Farmer Rabbit blends humour, narrative, and craftsmanship. It celebrates imagination while transforming everyday farming imagery into a whimsical sculptural scene.

The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 1 person, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
