Figurative

Figurative sculpture is a type of art that depicts recognizable figures, such as animals or humans, in three-dimensional mediums like stone, clay, or metal. The goal is to create a realistic and naturalistic portrayal of the subject.

Figurative sculpture is often associated with historical works, such as Michelangelo’s David, Auguste Rodin’s The Thinker, and the Venus de Milo. However, contemporary artists continue to explore the subject using new materials and techniques. In fact, there is no strict distinction between this and abstract sculpture, and many works that are considered figurative have abstract elements.

Artists explore the human form and tell stories through imagery. It has a long history, dating back to ancient Greek and Roman sculptures.
