This piece by Halliday Avray-Wilson(opens in new tab) captures the male torso in a moment of stillness and tension. The figure is nude, turned slightly to the left. The limbs and head are gone. What’s left is strength, structure, and movement, held in a single twist of the spine.
Avray-Wilson works with a sharp eye and a steady hand. He shapes the body with anatomical precision but never loses a sense of flow. The surface is rich with detail. Marks from the sculpting process remain, giving the bronze texture and energy. Light moves across the form, catching ridges of muscle and subtle curves.
The pose is quiet but powerful. It suggests motion, yet remains calm. The twist in the torso gives the piece balance and rhythm. It feels alive, though incomplete.
Avray-Wilson draws on classical sculpture but strips it back. He focuses on the core of the figure, on the torso as a symbol of strength and humanity. His style is minimal, confident, and physical.
This is the first in a limited edition of eight. Each casting follows the artist’s original model and bears his signature. The scale gives the work presence, while the form invites close study.

The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 1 person, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
