Tim Threlfall was born in 1940 in Watford, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom. He died in 1999.

EARLY LIFE
Tim developed an early interest in art and making, later expanding into sculpture, painting, photography, and printmaking. His early artistic development was shaped by a strong curiosity about structure, space, and material.

LIVES
He lived and worked in the United Kingdom and travelled extensively throughout Europe and the United States, including an extended journey across America in 1970.

CAREER
Tim worked as an assistant to artists including Henry Moore, Bryan Kneale, and John Hoskin. He later became a lecturer in Fine Art at Lanchester Polytechnic and went on to hold senior academic positions, including principal lecturer in sculpture and reader in fine art. From 1972 to 1991 he was a lecturer at Coventry University, eventually becoming head of sculpture before retiring following a serious fall.

MATERIALS
He worked in welded metal in his early career, later moving into stone and marble sculpture.

STYLE AND SUBJECTS
His early sculptural work explored tension, balance, and spatial instability, often constructed from welded metal strips arranged at angular positions to create a sense of precarious structure. In his later work, he moved towards stone and marble, focusing more on natural forms and organic structure. His broader practice was influenced by interests in space phenomena, quantum physics, molecular biology, and philosophy.

AWARDS AND EXHIBITIONS
His work was exhibited and collected nationally and internationally throughout his career from 1964 to 1999.
