BORN:
1960.

EARLY LIFE:
Jonathan Loxley travelled widely during his childhood due to his father’s career as a fighter pilot. Between 1979 and 1981, he worked painting stage sets and creating sculptures for film and theatre productions, contributing to set design for cult films including Labyrinth and A Fish Called Wanda. In 1989, he established a studio in Carrara, Italy, marking the beginning of his dedicated sculptural practice.

LIVES:
He is based between the United Kingdom and Italy.

CAREER:
Loxley developed his career through work in film, theatre, and sculpture, later focusing fully on marble and fine art sculpture following the establishment of his Italian studio. His work gained international recognition through exhibitions and high profile commissions.

MATERIALS:
Primarily marble, along with other sculptural materials influenced by traditional Italian stone-carving techniques.

STYLE AND SUBJECTS:
His work reflects classical sculptural traditions, particularly figurative and form-based studies, shaped by his training in Carrara and his experience in theatrical and cinematic design.

AWARDS AND EXHIBITIONS:
Loxley has exhibited across Italy and Europe. In 1993, he was commissioned by David Bowie to create a sculpture celebrating Bowie’s marriage to Iman. In 1999, he participated in The Shape of the Century – 100 Years of Sculpture in Britain at Canary Wharf, London. His work has also been shown at the Hampton Court Flower Show and the Henley Art Show in 2001.
