Band III by Jonathan Loxley stands 200 centimetres high, 60 centimetres wide, and 14 centimetres deep, presenting a commanding abstract sculpture carved from marble. The piece depicts a continuous band that twists and wraps into a rectangular void, creating a dialogue between solid form and open space. Rather than relying on literal representation, Loxley explores the interplay of volume, line, and negative space, transforming stone into a study of rhythm, balance, and geometric elegance.
The sculpture’s curves and angles guide the eye along its surface. From one perspective, the band appears to fold gracefully, echoing movement and fluidity. From another, it emphasizes strength and structural precision. The rectangular void at the centre functions as both absence and presence, framing light and shadow, and allowing the surrounding environment to become part of the composition. As viewers move around the work, the interaction of solid marble and empty space shifts. Revealing subtle changes in form, proportion, and visual weight.
Loxley’s choice of marble enhances the sculpture’s tactile and visual qualities. Its smooth, cool surface invites touch, while natural veins in the stone add complexity and organic variation that contrast with the geometry of the band. The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 1 person, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
