Nexus III by Jonathan Loxley, Marble, Unique, 183cm high by 61cm wide by 26cm deep
Nexus III by Jonathan Loxley is a unique marble sculpture measuring 183 cm high, 61 cm wide, and 26 cm deep. At first glance, it appears as a tall rectangular block of pristine stone. However, the eye is immediately drawn to the central feature, a precisely carved hole that pierces through the form.
Around this opening, Loxley shapes an elegant oval, its contours gently framing the void. The surface of this oval is alive with countless fine ridges, each one flowing seamlessly toward the hole, like ripples converging into a still center. These delicate lines create a sense of movement and depth, drawing the viewer inward as if the stone itself were breathing.
The contrast between the sculpture’s flat, unbroken planes and the intricate detailing around the hole gives the work its tension. The outer form feels solid, grounded, and architectural, while the inner carving feels organic and almost fluid. This interplay of geometry and softness invites both contemplation and touch.
Light transforms Nexus III. As it moves across the ridges, shadows deepen and highlights flare, making the oval seem to shift in depth and texture. The void at the center becomes more than absence, it feels like a focal point of connection, an opening between form and space. Loxley’s composition is minimal yet profound, turning a simple block of marble into a meditation on unity, flow, and the meeting of inner and outer worlds.
