Divided Stone by Jonathan Loxley is a unique abstract marble sculpture, standing no higher than 30cm. The piece presents a rounded stone, carefully carved to create a smooth, polished surface. Around this central form, fragments of marble cluster and overlap, partially covering the polished core.
The contrast between the smooth central stone and the surrounding rough fragments creates a dynamic tension. The eye moves between the soft, flowing curves of the carved area and the jagged, irregular edges of the marble pieces around it. Loxley plays with the idea of completeness and fragmentation, as if the stone has both emerged from and remained part of its raw material.
Additionally, the sculpture’s compact size emphasizes intimacy. Viewers can study the textures and forms closely, noticing the subtle variations in marble color and the precision of the carving. The surrounding fragments cast small shadows, enhancing the sense of depth and dimensionality.
Despite its small scale, Divided Stone feels monumental in concept. It embodies transformation, the dialogue between natural material and human intervention. The work captures a moment of balance between chaos and order, between the original rock and the refined stone at its heart.

Delivery & Installation
The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 1 person, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
We can provide a suitable sculpture plinth for an extra charge, please enquire for details. Experienced professionals handle all our sculptures, ensuring safe delivery and proper installation.
