Pollination of Bees and Butterflies by Ruth Moilliet (b. 1971) stainless steel and anodized aluminum, limited edition of five, 125 cm in diameter, Multi Coloured

This piece by Ruth Moilliet is a vibrant celebration of the intricate relationships between flowering plants and their pollinators. By transforming metal into living forms, Moilliet conveys both the beauty and energy of a thriving ecosystem.

The sculpture forms a lively spherical cylinder, where dozens of individually mounted blooms cluster together to create a delicate, interwoven lattice. Moreover, bees and butterflies hover among the flowers, frozen in mid-flight, as if caught in the act of pollination. This arrangement generates dynamic movement, while simultaneously drawing the viewer’s eye across every angle and surface.

Moilliet carefully selects each flower for ecological significance and visual appeal. Field Scabious, Honeysuckle, Cornflower, Musk Mallow, Chicory, Coreopsis, Iris, Bramble flower, Hawkbit, Buttercup, Aubretia, Cuckoo flower, Forget-me-not, and Thyme flower combine botanical accuracy with stylized elegance. In addition, the polished metals and vibrant anodized colors enhance the forms, creating reflections and shadows that animate the piece in changing light.

Beyond its decorative impact, Pollination conveys a deeper message about our relationship with nature. By celebrating interdependence, resilience, and ecological responsibility, the sculpture becomes both an aesthetic centerpiece and a symbolic reminder of life in motion.
