The Last of the Minotaurs by Andrew Stevens, Mixed Media, Found Objects, Unique, 47cm high by 48cm wide by 30cm deep, Tank, Ship, Bull
The Last of the Minotaurs by Andrew Stevens, is a unique mixed media figurative sculpture by Andrew Stevens, measuring 47 cm high, 48 cm wide, and 30 cm deep. The work portrays a group of bulls operating a giant mechanical arm, rendered with found objects that blend the fantastical and the mechanical. At first glance, viewers see the dynamic bull forms and industrial components, but as they explore the piece, hidden details emerge, a racing car, snakes, the rear end of a bull, and even a motorbike, all resting on a bed of nails.
Stevens carefully arranges these elements to create a layered visual narrative. The juxtaposition of organic bull forms with mechanical objects, combined with the intricate positioning of each element, invites viewers to look closer and discover new surprises with every angle. The sculpture’s surreal composition encourages engagement, revealing the artist’s imaginative interplay between nature, machinery, and storytelling.
By blending figurative sculpture with found object mixed media, Stevens crafts a work that is both visually compelling and conceptually rich. The piece captures movement, energy, and whimsy while retaining a strong architectural presence through the mechanical arm and structured base. Collectors and galleries will appreciate its intricate craftsmanship, narrative depth, and contemporary aesthetic.
The Last of the Minotaur’s stands as a striking example of contemporary mixed media sculpture, where traditional figurative forms meet surreal mechanical complexity, making it a memorable centrepiece for exhibitions, collections, or private display. The more one studies it, the more layers of creativity and imagination reveal themselves, ensuring that each viewing offers a fresh and engaging experience.
