Giant Flamingo’s by Pierre Diamantopoulo, Powder Coated Steel, Edition, Large orange pair, 500cm high by 150cm wide.
Set on a submersible, separate, galvanised steel platform.
Giant Flamingos by Pierre Diamantopoulo is a striking powder-coated steel sculpture measuring 500 cm high and 150 cm wide. The piece depicts a pair of flamingos in silhouette, their bodies merging into a single, fluid shape. The flamingos’ forms are simplified yet expressive, with one bird turning its head back to touch beaks with the other. Small cut-out holes mark each flamingo’s eye, adding subtle detail to the otherwise bold, graphic design.
The pair rise from two separate poles, both anchored to a galvanised steel platform. This setup gives each flamingo a sense of individuality, while their connected bodies reinforce their unity as a pair. The vibrant orange and yellow powder coating enhances the visual impact, catching light and emphasizing the sculpture’s curves.
Diamantopoulo plays with perspective and negative space. From a distance, the flamingos read as a single connected form, yet closer observation reveals the separate poles and sculptural details. The flat silhouettes and sleek lines create a modern, stylized interpretation of these iconic birds, while their beak connection adds warmth and interaction.
The sculpture’s scale and placement on a submersible platform allow it to dominate outdoor spaces, appearing almost weightless despite its height. The overall effect balances abstraction and recognition, transforming a natural pair of birds into a bold, contemporary artwork.
