This piece by Darby and Jones is a unique ceramic and steel sculpture, measuring 48 cm high, 65 cm wide, and 62 cm deep. Playful and humorous, it captures a French bulldog caught mid-adventure, flying in a cartoon-like plane.
The dog wedges itself into the steel plane, its compact body fitting tightly into the rounded form. Its front paws stretch out across the plane’s wings as if steadying its flight. Around its neck, a yellow scarf flutters, adding a light-hearted sense of speed and motion. The front propeller, also painted bright yellow, spins the imagination forward, heightening the comical nature of the piece.
The plane itself is small and stylised, exaggerated in its proportions. Its curves are softened to allow the dog to sit comfortably, though the playful mismatch between the size of the animal and the craft creates much of the sculpture’s charm. From every angle, the Frenchie seems determined, its expression focused, while the overall form remains whimsical and lively.
The mix of ceramic and steel provides a striking contrast. The dog, rendered with a smooth ceramic surface, offers warmth and character. Meanwhile, the steel structure gives strength and balance, anchoring the quirky fantasy in material reality.

The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 1 person, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
