Django (Origami Skip Rhino) by Alan Williams, Found steel, metal (unique), 110 × 220 × 90 cm
In Django (Origami Skip Rhino), artist Alan Williams reimagines the rhinoceros as a dynamic fusion of industrial detritus and sculptural elegance. Constructed entirely from found metal and steel components, this life-sized artwork balances the raw weight of its materials with the visual lightness of origami-inspired folds and forms.
Sections of yellow and blue metal salvaged from discarded skips create an angular, geometric surface that echoes the precision and delicacy of paper folding, while retaining the rough edges and history of the reclaimed objects. The result is a creature both ancient and futuristic, its body formed from the bones of urban decay and the grace of design.
Simultaneously abstract and figurative, Django straddles genres. It is fine art and street art, a commentary on nature through the lens of industrialisation. The sculpture’s name evokes individuality and character, suggesting a creature with resilience and spirit forged from the discarded and overlooked.
With its commanding presence and intricate construction, Django challenges viewers to reconsider the value of the forgotten, transforming scrap into strength, and waste into wonder.
