Draped Figure (2014) by Bobbie Fennick is a stunning hand-carved sculpture. It stands at 165 cm tall. The piece is carved from Portland limestone, a material known for its fine grain and strength. It is set on a steel base, which creates a subtle contrast with the softness of the stone.
Flowing fabric is evoked through the skilful shaping of the stone. As a result, the sculpture’s sense of grace and movement is enhanced. Every fold, crease, and wrinkle has been carefully rendered. The texture of soft cloth is suggested by the surface of the limestone. Subtle variations have been inscribed to mimic the delicacy of fabric. Consequently, a striking contrast is created between the stone’s hardness and its lifelike appearance.
Through careful manipulation, an almost lifelike quality is given to the figure. The pose is suggestive of quiet contemplation or stillness.
Fennick’s carving skill is revealed not only through the material’s beauty, but also through the transformation of stone into something seemingly alive. The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 1 person, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
