Standing Stag by John Cox (Edition 8 of 50), Bronze, 250cm high x 140cm wide x 90cm deep.
John Cox captures the quiet majesty of wildlife with a sculptural style that combines natural observation and classical form. In Standing Stag, he portrays the animal poised in a moment of calm alertness. The stag stands tall, its front legs planted firmly while one hind leg bends slightly, as though pausing to rest while surveying its surroundings.
The bronze surface enhances the sense of vitality, with subtle modelling that suggests the strength and elegance of the animal’s frame. Cox balances realism with a sculptural economy, giving the piece both lifelike presence and timeless simplicity.
This editioned work, numbered 8 of 50, reflects Cox’s longstanding interest in the grace and dignity of animals in their natural state. The stag, a symbol of endurance and nobility, becomes here both subject and emblem, embodying the quiet power of the wild.
