Salsa by Passmore Mupindiko is a Shona springstone sculpture, 117 cm high, 45 cm wide, and 23 cm deep. This unique work captures the elegance of two birds locked in a graceful, dance-like embrace.
The pair press closely together, their chests flowing into one continuous silhouette. Their bodies intertwine with balance and rhythm, echoing the intimacy of a dance. One bird leans its head and body back, stretching with fluid motion, while the other remains tall and steady. This contrast creates harmony, as if the two move together in perfect synchrony.
Their forms subtly turn toward one another, suggesting eye contact through the direction of their carved lines and curves. The gesture feels tender, reinforcing the sculpture’s sense of connection. The tallest bird carries lighter tones around its face and wings, offering a striking contrast against the deep black polish of the other. This interplay of colour and texture heightens the drama while keeping the piece unified.
Mupindiko’s use of springstone gives the work both strength and elegance. The polished surfaces shimmer with light, while the natural variations in the stone add depth. The sculpture’s flowing design allows viewers to trace the motion from every angle, finding new perspectives within the embrace.

The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 2 people, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
