Visionary by Taylor Nkomo is a distinctive Shona stone sculpture that explores contrast, identity and perception through a highly simplified abstract face. Created from Cobalt stone, Sapolite stone and Springstone, this unique sculpture measures 40 cm high, 25 cm wide and 7 cm deep, combining three different stones within one carefully balanced composition.
The sculpture rises from a solid Cobalt stone base before developing into a broad, flattened face. Nkomo reduces the facial features to their essential forms, allowing shape and material to define the expression. A strong central nose extends upwards towards the forehead, while two rounded eyes sit on either side. Consequently, the face remains immediately recognisable despite its restrained, geometric character.
Most notably, Nkomo divides the face through the use of contrasting stones. One side features white Sapolite, while the other uses deep black Springstone, creating a dramatic division of colour across the composition. Meanwhile, the dark Cobalt stone of the base visually anchors the sculpture and provides a strong foundation beneath the contrasting face.
Moreover, the sculpture’s shallow 7 cm depth strengthens its frontal presence. Rather than relying on complex three-dimensional modelling, Visionary uses silhouette, colour and simplified features to create its impact. As a result, the relationship between the white and black stone becomes central to the work, encouraging the viewer to consider ideas of contrast, duality and different perspectives.
Ultimately, Visionary combines natural stone variation with bold contemporary abstraction. As a unique Taylor Nkomo sculpture, it demonstrates the creativity of Zimbabwean Shona stone carving, transforming Cobalt stone, Sapolite and Springstone into a striking study of the human face.

The Sculpture Park will organise and pack each sculpture, then hand it over to a courier for delivery. We insure all deliveries during transit to protect against any damage or loss. Sculptures usually leave for dispatch within 5 to 14 working days after purchase. Experienced professionals handle all our sculptures, ensuring safe delivery and proper installation.
