Playful Baboon by Wilfred Tembo is a unique contemporary stone sculpture measuring 112 cm high, 75 cm wide, and 48 cm deep. The piece depicts a baboon poised atop a stone slab, blending abstraction with recognisable form.
The baboon stands on all four legs, its body balanced and grounded, while its head turns to the right, drawing the viewer’s attention. The body features smooth, rounded surfaces, emphasizing the animal’s mass and presence. In contrast, the face is abstracted into flat geometric planes, creating a striking visual juxtaposition. Despite the abstraction, the facial features remain recognisable, giving character and expression to the creature.
The tail rises upward before curving gracefully beside the body, adding rhythm and fluidity to the composition. The interaction of angular and curved forms guides the eye along the sculpture, highlighting both energy and stability.
The stone’s natural tones enhance the overall effect, with polished areas catching light across the baboon’s rounded back and limbs, while the more textured sections of the face and tail add depth. The slab beneath provides a sturdy base and elevates the figure, emphasizing its presence and playfulness.

Delivery & Installation
The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 1 person, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
