Opus  by David Saxon is a unique and powerful sculpture that explores duality, balance, and contrast.

The sculpture features two male torsos, each athletic and strongly defined. Both are sculpted with muscular precision, celebrating the strength and structure of the human form. Yet, the contrast between the two figures is central to the work. One torso is black, the other white, and together they form a dialogue of opposites, light and dark, presence and absence, individuality and unity.

The white torso carries an additional element, a disk cut into the shoulder. This circular void interrupts the smooth form of the body and introduces a symbolic layer. It can be read as a mark, an opening, or even a suggestion of incompleteness. By incorporating this detail, Saxon challenges the viewer to reflect on identity, imperfection, and the unseen forces that shape us.

The pairing of resin with steel enhances the sculpture’s presence. Resin allows for smooth, almost lifelike detail, while steel anchors the piece with strength and permanence. Together, they reinforce the dialogue between vulnerability and power.

Through Opus II + Opus Orbis, David Saxon creates more than two torsos. He creates a meditation on contrast, tension, and human resilience. The sculpture is both monumental and intimate, inviting the viewer to move closer, compare, and question the interplay between form, colour, and meaning.
