Mother and Children by Ian Thompson is a striking, handcrafted wooden sculpture that celebrates the profound bond between a mother and her children. Standing 154 cm tall and carved from solid wood, the piece immediately draws the viewer closer with its warm tones and organic textures. The artist shapes the family as a unified form, yet each figure carries its own identity.
At the centre, the mother stands tall and steady, her posture protective yet calm. Her body shows gentle curves that emphasize femininity and strength. She doesn’t hover over her children, instead, she anchors them, letting her quiet confidence radiate through her stance. The child in front of her stands upright, leaning toward her as though seeking guidance. This forward figure creates a sense of growth and curiosity, expressing how children look toward their parents for direction.
Meanwhile, the second child crouches at her side, close to the ground hiding behind her legs, adding movement and variation to the composition. This posture suggests playfulness and a need for reassurance, highlighting another side of childhood. Together, the two children mirror different stages of development, one seeking independence, the other drawing comfort from their mother’s presence.

Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
