Harvest Festival by Locardia Ndandarika is a unique Shona sculpture carved from serpentine stone, measuring 144 cm high by 53 cm wide by 58 cm deep. The work presents two interconnected figures engaged in the act of carrying pots, forming a unified and grounded composition.

The figures stack vertically, creating a strong sense of structure and balance. At the base, one figure crouches low, holding a pot close to their legs while supporting another vessel in their hands. This lower figure anchors the sculpture and establishes its weight. Above, a second figure stands and leans forward slightly, hunched under the load of additional pots. The upward movement draws the eye from the grounded base to the elevated form above.

The proportions remain intentionally abstract. Limbs shorten and widen, while torsos compress, emphasizing mass rather than anatomy. This abstraction strengthens the sense of physical effort and shared labour. The figures lean into each other, reinforcing connection and cooperation through posture alone.

The surface is fully smoothed and polished. This finish allows the deep grey tones of the serpentine stone to emerge clearly. Subtle variations in colour move across the sculpture, adding depth without distraction. Minimal carved details define faces, hands, and vessels, keeping the focus on form and gesture rather than surface complexity.

Light plays gently across the polished planes, highlighting curves and transitions between figures. Shadows settle into carved lines, enhancing separation while maintaining unity.

Overall, Harvest Festival conveys collaboration and endurance through simplified form and careful balance. The sculpture combines abstraction, gesture, and material to create a composed and quietly powerful expression of shared effort.
