Proud Man by Zimbabwean artist Wimbai Ngoma is beautifully hand-carved from opal stone. This expressive table-top bust portrays a proud male figure, with strong, refined features and a calm, dignified presence. It is striking, one-of-a-kind Shona stone sculpture.
One of the most distinctive elements of the sculpture is the treatment of the hair. Here, the artist has deliberately left the opal stone in its rough, natural state, preserving the raw texture and character of the original material. This rugged surface creates a dramatic contrast with the smoothly carved and polished face, neck and shoulders. Thus highlighting both the natural beauty of the stone and the skill involved in shaping it.
The combination of raw and polished surfaces gives the sculpture a wonderful tactile quality and allows the natural variations, markings and tones of the opal stone to become an integral part of the finished artwork.
Hand-carved in the tradition of Zimbabwean Shona stone sculpture, Proud Man is an original and unique work of art. Its compact bust format makes it particularly well suited to display on a table, console, shelf or pedestal, where the contrasting textures can be appreciated from different angles.
Delivery & Installation
The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 2 people, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
We can provide a suitable sculpture plinth for an extra charge, please enquire for details. Experienced professionals handle all our sculptures, ensuring safe delivery and proper installation.
