This piece embraces an industrial, mechanical aesthetic. The piece rises from a tall, sturdy stand, immediately giving it a sense of height and engineered purpose. Although the structure does not function as a real machine, it strongly suggests one through its arrangement of forms and materials.
Goodchild builds the sculpture from a network of steel elements that resemble pistons, joints, and connecting links. These components interact in a way that feels purposeful, as though each part contributes to an underlying mechanism. The shapes interlock and angle around each other, creating a dynamic vertical rhythm that pulls the viewer’s eye upward through the structure. As the elements shift in size and orientation, they create a sense of tension and balance, enhancing the sculpture’s industrial presence.
The surface of the steel reinforces this mechanical character. Its raw finish preserves subtle marks, tonal variations, and textures that echo the language of engineered metal. These details allow the sculpture to feel robust and grounded, as if it could belong in a workshop or factory floor, despite its abstract nature.

Delivery & Installation
The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 2 people, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.

This piece is currently available for viewing at the park/not currently on display at the park, although visitors can request a viewing. Additional images, videos, measurements, and details can be provided upon request.
