Lust by Francony Kowalski, Resin, Unique, 30cm high, 30cm wide, 28cm deep, Abstract, Mortality sculpture
“Lust” by Francony Kowalski delivers a bold and unsettling exploration of mortality through an abstract resin skull infused with vivid red and green hues. The sculpture measures 30 centimeters in height and width, with a slightly narrower depth of 28 centimeters, giving it a compact yet striking presence. Kowalski works the resin with confident intention, allowing the colors to swirl, collide, and bleed into one another. As a result, the skull appears to pulse with emotional intensity. Gold sequins embedded throughout the resin catch the light and shimmer unpredictably, adding a seductive, almost celebratory contrast to the darker theme.
Encased within a clear glass box, the sculpture gains a heightened sense of focus and tension. The enclosure doesn’t merely protect the piece, instead, it intensifies the viewer’s confrontation with it. Light bounces off the glass, refracts through the resin, and ignites the sequins, creating shifting patterns that change from every angle. Because of this, the sculpture feels alive, as though its meaning evolves with each step.
Furthermore, the red and green palette pushes the traditional symbolism of a skull into new territory. The colours evoke desire, conflict, vitality, and decay all at once. Meanwhile, the gold sequins introduce a sense of temptation, beauty layered over inevitability. This interplay encourages viewers to grapple with the tension between attraction and impermanence, a central theme in Kowalski’s work.
