Metal Mobile by Paul Margetts, Powder-coated Steel, 136 cm high × 190 cm wide (maximum), Kinetic Sculpture
Paul Margetts’ Metal Mobile explores the delicate equilibrium between mass and motion through a dynamic arrangement of three balancing levers. Crafted from powder-coated steel, the sculpture commands space with its bold geometry and refined industrial aesthetic. Margetts shapes each lever with careful precision, achieving a tension between strength and lightness, stability and movement.
The mobile’s kinetic nature allows it to respond subtly to air currents or touch, transforming static material into a constantly shifting composition. The powder-coated finish not only enhances durability but also accentuates the clean lines and sleek surfaces, reinforcing the sculpture’s modernist sensibility.
With its wide horizontal span and carefully engineered balance, Metal Mobile captures a sense of suspended energy. It invites viewers to consider the forces at play, gravity, momentum, stillness and to engage physically and visually with its ever-changing form. Margetts’ work reflects his ongoing interest in movement, mechanics, and the expressive potential of metal as a medium.
