Pebble Squared (large) by Richard Cresswell, Anodised Alluminium, 108cm high by 80cm diameter by 18cm deep, Nature sculpture
Pebble Squared (Large) by Richard Cresswell is an anodised aluminium sculpture, standing 108 cm high, 80 cm in diameter, and 18 cm deep. The piece takes the form of a large circular structure built from strips of metal. These strips cross diagonally in different directions, layering together to create the rounded shape. The result is both geometric and dynamic, with every angle revealing a different visual rhythm.
Colour plays a central role. Each direction of metal strip is anodised in a different hue. As the viewer moves around the piece, the circle shifts in colour, creating an effect that feels alive and responsive. One moment the sculpture glows with one tone, the next it transforms into another. This constant change draws the eye and encourages movement, making the piece interactive in its perception.
The work stands upright on a bar supported by two strips of metal. This simple base grounds the form, while the circular structure appears to float above it. The construction highlights Cresswell’s precise control of material and technique. Though industrial in nature, the sculpture carries an organic presence. It recalls the surface of a pebble, shaped over time by water and natural forces.
Cresswell blends engineering with nature. Pebble Squared (Large) becomes more than a static object. It is a shifting, shimmering circle that responds to light and perspective. The work celebrates both precision and fluidity, bridging the mechanical and the organic in a single form.
