Infatuated by Bywell Sango is a striking unique Springstone sculpture that explores intimacy, connection, and human emotion through the powerful language of abstract form. Combining the expressive qualities of contemporary Shona sculpture with a refined sense of balance and composition, the work captures a tender moment between two embracing figures.
Carved from Springstone, the sculpture depicts a pair of individuals drawn closely together, their bodies merging into a unified composition. One figure stands taller than the other, creating a subtle sense of protection and affection. Their heads tilt upward, while the taller figure gently rests its chin against the face of its companion, conveying warmth and emotional closeness despite the absence of facial features.
Rather than pursuing realism, Sango reduces the figures to a series of simplified angular forms. The bodies are constructed from carefully arranged geometric planes and square-like shapes that intersect and connect at the centre, before flowing into a shared base. This abstraction allows the emotional narrative to emerge through posture and relationship rather than detail, creating a sculpture that feels both modern and timeless.
The polished surface highlights the rich colour and character of the Springstone, while selected areas remain intentionally rough and textured. These contrasting finishes celebrate the natural qualities of the material, introducing depth, movement, and visual interest across the composition.

The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 1 person, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
