Gallop by Chang Feng, Bronze, Metal, Signed Edition of 99, 40cm high by 62cm wide by 17cm deep, Abstract, Animals and Birds, Horse sculpture
Gallop by Chang Feng immediately commands attention with its dynamic energy and abstract elegance. This signed bronze sculpture, part of an edition of 99, measures 40 centimetres high, 62 centimetres wide, and 17 centimetres deep. At first glance, the piece captures the essence of a horse in full stride, and consequently conveys movement, power, and freedom without relying on literal representation. The bronze surface, enhanced with golden tones, adds warmth and highlights the flowing contours of the form.
Feng abstracts the horse’s body into sweeping, elongated lines, emphasizing speed and rhythm over anatomical detail. Moreover, the tension in the curves suggests muscular energy, while the forward thrust of the form directs the viewer’s eye along the trajectory of motion. Meanwhile, the interplay of bronze and gold catches light differently across the sculpture’s surfaces, creating a sense of depth and continuous movement as the viewer shifts perspective.
As observers move around Gallop, additional nuances emerge. The raised contours suggest hooves barely touching the ground, and the elongated neck and arching back reinforce the sensation of momentum. Furthermore, the abstracted mane and tail, hinted through flowing lines, enhance the visual rhythm, producing a sense of wind and freedom that mirrors the horse’s natural grace.
Ultimately, Gallop transforms bronze into a celebration of vitality, motion, and elegance. Through abstraction and careful use of metallic tones, Feng conveys not just the physical form of a galloping horse, but its spirit and energy. Therefore, the sculpture invites viewers to experience both the power of movement and the beauty of form in a single, striking composition.
