Cruciform by Ian Thompson is a striking painted steel sculpture, standing 315 cm high, 158 cm wide, and 75 cm deep. The work presents a bold abstract interpretation of a crucifix, formed entirely from a series of square frames. Each square is identical, with small metal angles attached inside their tops, adding subtle structural detail.
The squares connect through short metal pieces, merging to create the cruciform shape. The central section bends slightly at an angle, giving the sculpture a dynamic sense of movement. The artist intentionally leaves visible welding marks and small bumps, highlighting the process of construction and celebrating the tactile quality of steel.
The surface is painted in a range of muted colours. The subtle variations in tone draw attention to the structure, while also softening the industrial feel of the metal. Light interacts with the flat planes and the angles, emphasizing depth and layering.

The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 2 people, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
