Couple Dancing (Bath Stone) by Keith Newstead, Stone, Wood, Unique, Signed ‘KT’, 34cm high, 22cm wide, 18cm deep, Abstract, Body, People, Performing Arts, White, Sulpture

Couple Dancing (Bath Stone) by Keith Newstead presents a lively interpretation of two figures dancing, carved with confidence from smooth, white Bath stone. Newstead shapes the couple with bold, abstract lines that lean toward a cubist sensibility, giving the piece both rhythm and structure. Instead of soft curves or literal detail, he uses angled planes and purposeful contours to suggest movement, creating a dynamic interplay between solidity and motion. As a result, the figures seem to turn, lift, and lean into one another, as if caught mid dance.

Moreover, the sculpture’s proportions, 34 cm high, 22 cm wide, and 18 cm deep, give it a strong physical presence without overwhelming the space around it. The Bath stone’s pale tone contrasts beautifully with the warm wooden base, which grounds the sculpture and adds an organic counterpoint to its stylized form. The base does more than support the artwork, it anchors the motion above it, allowing the eye to move upward from stability to animation.

Newstead’s signature, marked simply as “KT,” reinforces the piece’s uniqueness and handmade quality. The artwork celebrates the human body and the shared energy of dance, yet it avoids literal storytelling. Instead, it invites viewers to interpret the figures’ relationship and movement for themselves. Through the combination of abstract geometry, natural materials, and an expressive sense of performance, the sculpture conveys both intimacy and vitality. Consequently, it stands not only as a visual object but also as a spirited tribute to human connection and artistic expression.
