Whirlpool Center by Tonderai Sowa is a unique Shona sculpture carved from springstone. Standing 155 cm high, 50 cm wide, and 42 cm deep, the piece rises with a flowing, twisting form. It curls in on itself, forming circular loops that move up and down. The sculpture conveys continuous motion, like a current frozen mid-whirl.
Polished springstone enhances the dynamic curves. Light reflects across the smooth surface, highlighting the twists and deepening shadows in recessed areas. Each loop leads naturally to the next, guiding the eye through the sculpture’s rhythm. The interplay of solid form and open space adds depth and makes the movement feel more tangible.
From every angle, the sculpture reveals new patterns. Circles appear, disappear, and reform, creating visual energy. Despite its scale and weight, the piece maintains a sense of lightness. The flowing lines suggest both upward lift and downward pull, echoing the natural motion of water.

Delivery & Installation
The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 2 people, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
