Anchorage by Antonia Spowers is a striking abstract sculpture standing 145 cm high, 80 cm wide, and 26 cm deep. The piece features two anchor shapes crafted from glass, each constructed from several identical glass planes bolted together at the top. One anchor is white, and the other is a pale green, creating a subtle yet engaging contrast between the two forms.
The anchors are minimal in design, their shapes more akin to elongated arrows than traditional anchors. Each rests on one flat side at its base, tilting slightly, which gives the impression of delicate balance and poised movement. The minimalism of the forms emphasizes line and geometry, inviting viewers to focus on the interaction between surfaces and angles.
On the upper side, the tips of the two anchors overlap and interlock, creating a dynamic visual connection between the otherwise separate elements. Despite being distinct, the anchors interact harmoniously, suggesting tension, balance, and interdependence.
Each anchor is mounted on its own oak plinth, reinforcing separation while providing stability. The natural warmth of the wood contrasts beautifully with the cool transparency of the glass, enhancing the visual appeal.
Through its combination of glass planes, subtle colour, and precise interlocking, Anchorage conveys both minimalistic elegance and structural intrigue. The piece plays with perception, light, and form, encouraging viewers to move around it and appreciate the anchors’ relationship from multiple perspectives.
Delivery & Installation
The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 1 person, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
