Carrying my Vision (1979) by Taylor Nkomo, Serpentine Stone, Unique, Signed, 35cm high by 50cm wide by 40cm deep, Abstract, Green, Body, Spiritual Sculpture

Carrying My Vision (1979) by Taylor Nkomo is a unique, signed Shona sculpture carved from Serpentine stone, measuring 35 cm high, 50 cm wide, and 40 cm deep. The piece combines abstract forms with symbolic detail. On one side, a large eye looks forward. Its iris is defined, and carved eyelashes add depth. Two hands scoop gently beneath the eye, as if holding it with care and intention. From the base of the eye, a foot-like form emerges, giving the piece a sense of growth and movement.

On the top and back, a face gazes outward, its expression calm yet alert. Braided hair wraps around the bottom, connecting the face to the eye in a flowing rhythm. Together, the eye, hands, and face suggest vision, perception, and personal insight. The forms interact in a continuous, organic way, guiding the viewer’s eye across the sculpture.

Nkomo smooths and polishes the stone carefully, allowing the natural green hues to shine. Light catches the curves and contours, emphasizing the interplay between rounded and linear shapes. Subtle variations in color add depth and enhance the sculptural presence.

Carrying My Vision (1979) conveys care, awareness, and connection. Its abstracted forms invite interpretation while showcasing the skill and creativity of Shona sculpture. The combination of flowing lines, symbolic elements, and polished stone creates a visually engaging, thought-provoking work that balances elegance with meaning.
