Bottle and Dish by Holme Gaard, Glass, Unique, 7cm high, 23cm wide, 15cm deep, Green, Abstract sculpture, Melted Glass
This piece transforms a green glass bottle into a functional yet sculptural dish. The bottle is flattened across its middle, leaving the neck and base largely intact, though slightly warped from the central indentation.
A rounded dish rests over the flattened section, supported by the raised edges of the bottle. This placement creates a subtle interplay between the original form and the added element, bridging the bottle’s vertical shape with the horizontal plane of the dish. The dish and bottle share the same green glass tone, creating visual unity across the piece.
The glass surface maintains the same smooth, polished finish as the original bottle. Light glances across the curves and edges, emphasizing the gentle folds and the tension created by the flattened centre. The distortion of the bottle draws attention to the material’s flexibility and strength while keeping the form immediately recognizable.
The sculpture combines everyday object with inventive transformation. The flattening of the bottle and the addition of the dish create a sense of movement and balance. The subtle warping highlights the interplay of form, function, and material. Bottle and Dish demonstrates both elegance and whimsy, turning a familiar object into a quietly striking work of art.
