White Rhinoceros by John Cox, 154cm high, 270cms wide, 70cm deep, Rhino Sculpture
White Rhinoceros by John Cox is a life-size bronze sculpture that captures the presence and strength of the animal. Measuring 154 cm high, 270 cm wide, and 70 cm deep, the piece presents the rhinoceros in a neutral stance. Its legs are slightly staggered, suggesting gentle movement and natural balance.
The sculpture emphasizes realism through detailed lines and wrinkles that cover the animal’s body. These marks enhance depth and texture, giving the skin a tactile, lifelike quality. The careful attention to anatomical detail communicates the sheer power and solidity of the rhinoceros.
Cox uses subtle colour contrasts to heighten realism. The natural brown of the bronze appears on the horns, toes, and eyes, while the rest of the body shows a cooler, blue-tinted surface. This variation adds visual interest and accentuates the forms of muscles, folds, and contours.
The work invites viewers to move around it, experiencing the animal’s scale and strength from multiple angles. Light and shadow play across the bronze, emphasizing its mass and the intricate surface details.
White Rhinoceros balances accuracy with presence. It captures both the majesty and quiet dignity of the creature. The sculpture conveys movement, texture, and natural colour in a commanding composition. It stands as a powerful representation of wildlife, inviting contemplation of the animal’s form and character.
