This piece by H. Rataj is a unique wooden sculpture that presents an abstract representation of a bird, built from several driftwood branches radiating from a single point. Two branches point downward, one extends to the side, and another reaches upward, creating a sense of dynamic balance.

One branch anchors the sculpture to its stand, allowing the other branches to hover freely above it. This arrangement gives the piece a feeling of suspended motion, as if the abstract bird is caught mid-flight. The natural form of the wood guides the eye along each line, emphasizing the interplay between weight and lift.

The wood is carefully smoothed and treated. Smaller rough textures have been softened, while larger lumps and natural bumps remain, preserving the material’s organic character. The sculpture maintains the warm, natural tones of the wood, allowing the viewer to appreciate its grain and surface variations.

The simplicity of the design focuses attention on form and movement rather than intricate detail. The branching elements interact visually, creating rhythm and tension in the composition. The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 1 person, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
