Aeolus II by Frederick Andrews, Steel, Aluminium, Bronze, Stainless Steel, Unique,180cm high, 60cm wide, Guitar, Music sculpture
Aeolus II by Frederick Andrews is a unique abstract sculpture made from steel, aluminium, bronze, and stainless steel. Standing 180cm high and 60cm wide, the piece reinterprets the guitar form through a sculptural and interactive lens.
Sleek and industrial in finish, the sculpture rests mounted on a stand but is intended to be played on its side. This unusual orientation invites a physical and conceptual shift, transforming the guitar from a traditional musical instrument into a dynamic sculptural object. Eight taut metal strings run across its body, adding a sense of tension and potential energy.
Crafted with precision, the combination of mixed metals gives the work both visual depth and symbolic weight. The cool steel contrasts with the warmth of bronze and aluminium, while the stainless steel adds a polished clarity. Each surface reacts differently to light, casting shadows and reflections that shift with the environment.
Though abstract in form, the guitar remains recognisable. However, its minimalist body and stark lines emphasize form over function. It suggests music but holds its silence, unless engaged by touch.
Aeolus II bridges sound and sculpture, craft and concept. As a follow-up to Aeolus I, it expands on the theme of elemental forces, this time leaning into interaction and viewer participation. It’s a contemplative and striking piece for public or private display.
