WWII Paratrooper Landing is a unique mixed-media sculpture measuring 47 cm high, 64 cm wide, and 23 cm deep. The piece captures a moment of tension and movement during a wartime descent. At the centre, a paratrooper stands firmly as he pulls hard on his parachute lines. The canopy billows behind him, pushed sideways by an unseen wind. Thin copper wires stretch outward to form the parachute cords, creating a delicate contrast against the solid wooden figures.
The soldier grips the ropes with one hand. Meanwhile, he holds his rifle tightly in the other. His stance feels grounded yet alert, as if he has just touched down. Nearby, a second, much smaller figure lands at a short distance. This added detail expands the scene and suggests a wider operation unfolding beyond the main figure.
The artist smooths the wood carefully, yet keeps a gentle stylisation in the proportions. As a result, the figures feel expressive rather than strictly realistic. The carving highlights key forms without overwhelming detail. Subtle angles and clean edges guide the eye across the composition.
Throughout the work, the rich red-brown wood finish unifies every element. The warm tone adds a sense of history and gravity. At the same time, the copper wires introduce lightness and tension. Together, these materials balance strength and fragility. Ultimately, the sculpture conveys motion, resilience, and the quiet intensity of a single wartime moment.

The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 1 person, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
