Their forms intertwined in a fluid and dynamic composition. Maas captures the hares’ lithe bodies with remarkable attention to detail. Emphasizing the tension and grace in their limbs, the expressive tilt of their heads, and the delicate flow of their movement.
Transitioning from form to material, the bronze medium enhances the sculpture’s vibrancy. Reflecting light across the smooth, polished surfaces while highlighting subtle textures that suggest fur and motion. The interplay of shadows and highlights animates the piece, making the hares appear almost weightless as they whirl in their nocturnal waltz. The sculpture’s impressive dimensions, 163 cm high, 100 cm wide, and 73 cm deep, give it a commanding presence while allowing viewers to appreciate its intricate detailing from every angle.
Beyond its technical mastery, the sculpture evokes a sense of joy, playfulness, and connection. Both between the animals and with the natural rhythms of the night. The title, Dancing in the Moonlight, reinforces the romantic, whimsical atmosphere, inviting viewers to imagine the quiet magic of a moonlit meadow.
Ultimately, Maas transforms bronze into a celebration of life and movement. Valse au Clair de Lune (Dancing in the Moonlight) by Christian Maas, balances realism and stylization.
