The Old Warrior (1994) by Sean Crampton, Bronze, Edition of 24, 32cm high by 24cm wide by 11cm deep
‘Returning from his battles with his faithful dog, the Old Warrior strides steadily home’
The Old Warrior is a striking table-top bronze sculpture by Sean Crampton, depicting a solitary human warrior accompanied by a dog. The figure stands holding a staff, creating a strong, contemplative composition that suggests experience, resilience and companionship.
Crampton’s treatment of the warrior conveys a sense of age and endurance rather than heroic grandeur. The presence of the dog adds warmth and loyalty to the composition. The staff reinforces the impression of a figure who has travelled and endured over time. Together, the figures give the sculpture a quiet narrative quality, inviting the viewer to imagine the history and character of the old warrior.
Cast in bronze and produced as a limited edition of just 24, the sculpture is ideally proportioned for table-top, pedestal or cabinet display.
The figure is depicted confidentally striding forward holding a tall staff and with the dog at their side. The dog appears to be listening or awaiting to instructions from their master. The head tilted towards the figure and ears pricked up.
