Pre-Hysteric by Andrew Sinclair (b. 1961), Bronze on Stone Plinth, 183 cm high, Signed, Fantasy, Humour, Animals & Birds, Figurative Sculpture
Pre-Hysteric is a bold and delightfully irreverent sculpture by acclaimed British artist Andrew Sinclair. Known for his expert craftsmanship and imaginative storytelling in bronze, Sinclair brings both humour and skill to this life-sized indoor piece. The sculpture captures a surreal moment: a semi-nude woman, wearing an elaborate top hat, rides confidently atop a lumbering dinosaur. The scene is both absurd and regal, blending Victorian elegance with prehistoric strength and playful fantasy.
The woman’s confident pose and cheeky smile suggest satire. She may be a parody of power, femininity, or even royal portraiture. Her top hat adds charm and eccentricity, while her nudity introduces an unexpected contrast, graceful yet irreverent.
In sharp contrast, the dinosaur looks powerful and grounded. Sinclair sculpts it with muscular realism, giving the creature serious physical weight. This striking opposition, between rider and beast, deepens the sculpture’s sense of fantasy. It invites the viewer into a world where history, evolution, and myth collide.
The piece stands on a solid stone plinth, reaching 183 cm in total height. Its size and presence make it a commanding focal point in any space. The bronze patina highlights textures in both the woman’s skin and the dinosaur’s scales. Every detail reflects Sinclair’s refined technique and creative flair.
