Pondering by Ferri Farahmandi is a unique stoneware sculpture measuring 116 cm high, 37 cm wide, and 58 cm deep. The work presents a seated woman, her form enclosed in a long flowing dress. She sits with her knees raised, her arms held close to her body, embodying both stillness and tension.
Layers of binding wrap coil around her, pressing gently against her figure yet leaving space between each strip. These bands extend across her head and face, veiling her identity while allowing her features to emerge through. Her eyes remain closed, suggesting inner reflection or surrender. The uneven spacing of the bindings creates rhythm, drawing the eye across her form while reinforcing the sense of restraint.
The sculpture balances fragility and strength. On one hand, the bound posture conveys restriction, as though she is held back or confined. On the other, her upright seated position and serene expression suggest resilience. The contrast between vulnerability and endurance becomes central to the piece.
Stoneware adds depth to the narrative. The earthy material grounds the work in permanence, yet its fired surface captures fine detail, especially in the dress and bindings. Light grazes the folds and gaps, emphasizing texture and shadow.
Through abstraction of movement and emotion, Farahmandi creates more than a portrait. Pondering becomes a meditation on silence, constraint, and the quiet power of endurance.

The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 1 person, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
