Ferri Farahmandi

BORN:
Ferri Farahmandi was born in Iran.

EARLY LIFE:
Ferri grew up in a coastal town in southern Iran within a traditional Persian family. Surrounded by a stark, desolate landscape, she developed an early sensitivity to form and environment. Although she enjoyed working creatively with clay, her early life focused on education and family. Her artistic career began later, after moving to England and raising her children.

LIVES:
She is based in Greater London.

EDUCATION:
She trained in ceramics at Harrow College (City and Guilds, Parts One and Two) and later completed a BA (Hons) in Ceramics at the University of Westminster.

CAREER:
Ferri developed a sculptural practice in the UK, combining technical ceramic processes with conceptual themes. Her work reflects both her cultural background and personal experiences, establishing her as a distinctive voice in contemporary ceramic sculpture.

MATERIALS:
She hand-builds her work using stoneware and porcelain clay, firing pieces at high temperatures. Techniques such as coiling, burnishing, and smoke firing create textured, nuanced surfaces.

STYLE AND SUBJECTS:
Her work focuses on the human form, particularly the female figure, exploring themes of restriction, identity, and freedom. Influenced by nature and personal narrative, her sculptures convey emotional depth and subtle expression.

AWARDS, PUBLICATIONS AND EXHIBITIONS:
Ferri has received the Passion For Freedom Award (2013) and has been featured in several international ceramics publications. She has exhibited widely across London and the South East.
