Komodo Dragon (medium) is a unique hardwood sculpture measuring 39 cm high, 159 cm wide, and 52 cm deep. The piece presents a Komodo dragon in a lifelike yet slightly stylised form. Its body extends low and elongated, the head raised just enough to suggest alertness while turning gently to the side. The dragon appears calm, as though pausing to observe its surroundings.
The proportions create a strong sense of presence. The thick body flows into a long tail that curves behind, grounding the piece and emphasizing the animal’s quiet strength. The legs stand solid and well-placed, their posture capturing both balance and readiness.
Rather than carving every detail, the artist chose a stylised approach. Surfaces remain smooth, with gentle contours defining the body. This restraint allows the natural grain of the hardwood to stand out, its patterns suggesting skin and scale without the need for intricate texture. Light moves easily across the polished surface, creating depth through highlights and shadows.
The sculpture avoids aggression, presenting the Komodo dragon as steady and composed. It highlights the reptile’s form and power without dramatization, achieving a balance between realism and abstraction. At this scale, the piece feels both commanding and intimate, offering the presence of the animal in a way that fits comfortably within a space.
Delivery & Installation
The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 1 person, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
