Pair of Kingsale Hounds by Mike Triton is a commanding sculpture crafted from reconstituted stone. Measuring 195cm high, 172cm wide, and 74cm deep, it honours the famous hunting dogs of John de Courcy, the 26th Lord Kingsale. This edition of 100 celebrates loyalty and history.
Side by side, the two Great Danes rest on the ground. Both hounds lay with their heads lifted slightly, ears perked, as if it senses something in the distance. Each detail feels deliberate. Their powerful frames show strength but also calm devotion.
John de Courcy loved hunting. He often rode out with his favourite dogs at Old Head Castle in County Cork. In 1760, these hounds even stood by when he escaped a night attack by dropping from a window. Such loyalty made them legends. When John died in 1776, they were buried at Old Head Castle, close to their master.
Today, Triton’s sculpture keeps that story alive. The reconstituted stone gives the hounds a timeless look. Their poses capture both rest and watchfulness. They seem ready to leap up at any moment.
Seen in a garden or grand entrance, they speak of old hunts, family honour, and the bond between human and animal. Pair of Kingsale Hounds is more than decoration. It is a reminder of faithfulness and heritage, cast forever in stone.
