Fox and Hare by Lucia Corrigan, Chicken Wire, Unique, 35cm high by 35cm wide by 105cm deep, Animals and Birds, Nature sculpture
Fox and Hare by Lucia Corrigan is a unique figurative sculpture made from chicken wire, measuring 35cm high, 35cm wide, and 105cm deep. The work captures a dramatic moment between two animals—a fox preparing to pounce and a hare frozen in awareness.
The composition consists of two individual forms that interact when positioned together. The fox crouches low, its body tense and head thrust forward, eyes focused on its prey. Its posture conveys imminent motion, the coiled energy of a predator ready to spring. In contrast, the hare stands alert, its body still yet aware, head turned backward as if sensing danger approaching. The juxtaposition of these two forms creates a visual tension, emphasizing the drama of the natural encounter.
The chicken wire remains in its organic form, allowing the sculpture to retain a raw, textured quality. The natural blue hue of the wire shows through, giving both figures subtle coloration while highlighting the intricacy of the wirework. The wire’s transparency allows light to pass through, casting delicate shadows and enhancing the sense of fragility and movement.
Despite the minimal materials, the piece communicates a narrative through posture, proportion, and interaction. The fox and hare seem caught in a frozen story, balancing tension and calm. The sculpture invites viewers to engage with both forms, exploring how predator and prey coexist in a moment of suspended motion.
