Darby and Jones
EARLY LIFE:
Darby & Jones is the result of Gavin Darby and Garry Jones linking their skills to create interesting and entertaining sculptures.
Gavin Darby was born in Essex and now lives in near Nottingham.
Gary Jones was born in Birmingham and after moving around the West Midlands now lives and works in a studio on the Shropshire/Herefordshire/Welsh border
Gary is an established ceramic artist who shares a sense of humour with Gavin.
Gavin Darby started his working life in catering and then joined the Civil Service, working for the Insolvency Service. However, after acquiring an old steel narrow boat which needed renovating, Gavin decided to learn welding at evening classes. Whilst in the workshop he took a piece of copper pipe and made it into a bird. This was the start of his artistic journey. In 2006 Gavin made the brave move to leave his paid job and strike out on his own.
