This piece by Rafael Miranda San Juan is a striking and unique sculpture crafted from mild steel. The life-sized figure depicts the torso and legs of a nude male body, standing still, without arms or a head. Though the figure lacks key features, it conveys a powerful sense of human presence and quiet strength.
Rather than a solid mass, the form is built from countless small steel rods, each carefully welded together. These rods follow the natural contours of the human body, tracing muscle, curve, and stance with precision. The result is a figure that feels both solid and open, simultaneously defined and fragmented.
The texture of the welded steel gives the surface a raw, tactile quality. Light and shadow play across the gaps between rods, creating depth and movement even in stillness. The figure stands at rest, legs grounded, posture balanced, more reflective than active, more timeless than momentary.
San Juan’s minimalist approach strips away identity and expression, leaving only form and stance. Yet in doing so, the sculpture invites a deeper reflection on what it means to inhabit a body and move through the world.
Caminante is both industrial and human, abstract and familiar. It speaks of resilience, transformation, and presence. Whether placed indoors or outdoors, it commands attention, not with noise, but with still, sculptural weight.

The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 1 person, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
