Wedding II by Ralph Brown, Bronze, Unique, 80cm high by 64cm wide by 53cm deep, Man, Woman, Body, Figure, Love sculpture
Wedding II by Ralph Brown is a unique bronze sculpture measuring 80 cm high, 64 cm wide, and 53 cm deep. The piece depicts a nude couple lying together, enveloped in flowing, abstract sheets that both support and surround them.
The figures merge into the surrounding forms, appearing almost as if they melt into the folds of the sheets. Despite this blending, the two nude forms remain recognizable, positioned closely together in an intimate embrace. The sheets rise around them, with ripples and folds creating movement and texture while a subtle indent marks where the figures rest near the top and center of the sculpture.
The bulk of the work displays a marbled green colour, polished to catch and reflect light across the expansive surface. In contrast, the figures themselves take on a deeper, murkier tone with a matte finish, allowing their forms to subtly emerge from the surrounding bronze. This contrast emphasizes the intimacy of the couple while highlighting the sculptural depth of the drapery.
Wedding II balances abstraction and representation. The flowing sheets suggest softness and motion, while the embedded figures convey tenderness and closeness. Brown’s work transforms bronze into a sensuous, tactile environment, celebrating connection, intimacy, and the fluidity of form. The sculpture invites close inspection, revealing new angles and subtleties in the interplay of light, texture, and colour.
