Richard (Will) Shakespeare, Shakespeare’s Sisters, 198cm high, Hot Cast Lead Crystal, Stainless Steel on an oak base, 198cms high

Standing nearly two metres tall, the sculpture confronts you with a powerful fusion of raw solidity and polished refinement. Two jagged slabs of hot cast lead crystal rise upright from an oak base, their abstract contours twisting and jutting like fragments of a shattered monolith. At first glance, the rough hewn crystal seems frozen in mid crack, but then light catches its smooth facets, glinting and refracting around the edges. In that shimmering shift, the work moves from brutal weight to a kind of spectral translucence, as though the crystal might dissolve into air.

Polished stainless steel elements wind around and through the crystal forms, contrasting cold, mirror like precision with the primal irregularity of the crystalline shapes. Stainless steel offers crisp, clean lines and reflective surfaces, the crystals, by contrast, retain a primal, almost geological energy. Thanks to this tension between materials, the sculpture feels alive, more like a moment captured mid eruption than a static object. The oak base anchors the whole composition firmly in space, its warm, organic grain grounding the gleaming metal and luminous crystal above.

Together, the elements speak in a language of interplay, fractured and whole, industrial and natural, heavy and light.
